Photos of the original Winnie-the-Pooh teddy uncovered

2E21973E00000578-0-image-m-2_1446749447493The world’s only photograph of the toy bear that inspired AA Milne’s creation of Winnie the Pooh has been uncovered in a family archive.

The grainy sepia snap, taken circa 1913, shows the two young children of the illustrator hired by author Milne to create the much-loved fictional bear standing next to one of their teddy bears.

It was the cuddly teddy called Growler which belonged to E.H. Shepard’s young son Graham, who was about six years old at the time, which inspired the initial drawings of Winnie the Pooh.
